The 6 changes to make your beauty routine sustainable

- Categories : All Posts , We'r'nat

Sustainability is a term that has been rising in popularity over the last few years. Everybody nowadays speaks about it. This has been so, because we want to raise awareness in society to change our attitude and achieve a balance between caring for the environment and social welfare.

According to the Report 'Releasing Plastic in the Mediterranean Sea' by WWF (World Wildlife Fauna), "between 70,000 and 130,000 tons of plastic are dumped in Europe every year, a plague that accounts for 95% of the waste in this ecosystem" .

To meet the goal of caring for the planet a little more without having to change our customs in beauty rituals, we are going to teach you a few small steps to follow.

1. REDUCE PACKAGING

As we have seen, there are thousands of tons of plastic in our seas and we have to change its manufacturing process and cost.

If you want to support the protection of the environment, you must take into account that the packaging of the products must be recyclable. Bet on types of products whose containers are made of glass (to reuse them) or eco-friendly and biodegradable.

The goal is to throw away as little as possible and, whenever you do, in the yellow container.

2. CHANGE THE COTTON PADS

We have the custom of using cotton pads to clean our face and/or remove make-up. If we think about it, sometimes we use 2 discs to remove eye make-up, 2 discs to cleanse the skin with micellar water, another one to use the toner... and without a second thought, we discard a large amount of cotton pads in each of our daily routines.

For that reason, it's time to give washable and reusable wipes, muslins and pads a try.

3. TIDY UP YOUR BEAUTY CLOSET

Hasn't it happened to you that you buy several products and in the end they end up disorganized in your closet? Well, it's time to give your closet some order. You have to keep in mind that once a product is opened, its expiration date begins to count, therefore, if you open it, finish it before buying another one.

4. SWITCH TO WOODEN BRUSHES AND COMBS

We encourage you to stop using plastic handles and switch to bamboo or biodegradable combs. You can do it in hair combs or brushes for dental hygiene.

In addition, you will enjoy a more elegant design and you will contribute to increase their manufacture.

5. CHANGE SYNTHETIC SPONGES FOR NATURAL SPONGES MADE WITH VEGETABLE FIBERS

Vegetable sponges are made with natural and biodegradable materials. Not only will you help the environment, but these types of sponges also have a natural exfoliating function and provide a deep cleansing to the skin: they eliminate dead cells and help reduce the excess amount of fat accumulated in the skin. Thanks to their composition, they do not harm the body and stimulate blood circulation to help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

6. MAKE SURE YOUR PRODUCTS ARE MANUFACTURED WITH ZERO WASTE

The Zero Waste movement is based on minimizing the waste and rubbish we generate by applying the expanded three «R» hierarchy: rethink, reject, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle… Therefore, it focuses much more on reducing and reusing, so that waste is not generated and recycling is less necessary.

Knowing in depth the environmental impact of a product is not always an easy task. However, as consumers get more information about what we buy, we make more conscious decisions. But what is sustainable consumption? There is a simple way to define it:

“Sustainable consumption is that which guarantees the satisfaction of our current needs without compromising those of future generations”

You might be wondering… What reasons are there to switch to Zero Waste? There are several reasons to take into account that we will talk about in other articles later, but so that you can start to be informed, the most significant are: you will save money because you reduce your material needs and packaging is used better, you reduce the emissions that cause the climate change, you protect biodiversity and as a result, we will be leaving a better world for future generations.

Amazing, isn't it? With small changes that we make in our routine, we will contribute together to big changes that will benefit our planet.
